Dr. Devarajan Thirumalai

Biography

Devarajan Thirumalai is a Professor and the Marvin K. Collie-Welch Regents Chair in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin. His research group focuses on problems related to equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics. Currently, his group is investigating aspects of the transition from liquid to amorphous states, with a strong emphasis on the theoretical study of polymer-colloid interactions. His research further aims to understand the dynamics of protein folding, integrating interdisciplinary approaches from biophysics, structural biology, chemical biology, and physical chemistry. With advanced degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, the University of Minnesota, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University, Professor Thirumalai has established a robust academic and research portfolio in the fields of chemistry and biophysics.
