Biography

Devesh Ranjan is a Professor at the Eugene C. Gwaltney, Jr. School Chair in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He assumed his current role on January 1, 2022, having previously served as Associate Chair for Research. In addition to his role at Georgia Tech, he holds a courtesy appointment at the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering and is a co-director of the $100 million Department of Defense-funded University Consortium for Applied Hypersonics. Ranjan has been awarded several significant honors, including the Department of Energy Early Career Award, the NSF CAREER Award, and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator Award. His research focuses on interdisciplinary applications of fluid mechanics, particularly in power conversion, shock-induced hydrodynamic instabilities, and turbulent mixing in extreme conditions. Ranjan is recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and has contributed significantly to the field through his leadership and mentorship roles, as well as through his editorial work for various scientific journals. He has also participated in several prestigious programs, including the National Academy of Engineering's Frontiers of Engineering Symposium.
