Dr. Devika Hovell

Biography

Devika Hovell is a professor specializing in Public International Law at the London School of Economics. Her expertise encompasses international criminal law, the practices and procedures of the Security Council, sanctions, and international dispute resolution. She has published widely in leading journals, including the European Journal of International Law and the American Journal of International Law, and has authored books such as 'The Power Process' published by Oxford University Press, which examines the due process involved in Security Council sanctions decision-making. Hovell graduated with a DPhil from the University of Oxford and holds an LLM from NYU, where she received the George Colin Award, as well as a BA LLB from the University of Western Australia. She serves on the Editorial Board of the European Journal of International Law and has contributed to various legal blogs. Hovell has also provided legal advice to a range of NGOs, governments, law firms, and served as a judicial clerk at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and as an Associate Justice Hayne's clerk at the High Court of Australia. She is currently a Fixed Term Member at Matrix Chambers in London.
