Biography

Devleena Samanta is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin and an associate member of the Livestrong Cancer Institutes and the Texas Materials Institute. Her research focuses on developing nanoscale tools to sense and control biocatalytic activity, which enhances fundamental chemistry for new applications in biology, medicine, and sustainability. She received the prestigious Packard Fellowship in Science and Engineering for her contributions to the field and has received multiple honors, including the Scialog Fellowship and the Outstanding Researcher Award from the International Institute of Nanotechnology. As a dedicated teacher and mentor, Samanta has also been honored with teaching awards at UT Austin, including the Outstanding Mentor Award from IIN. She earned her PhD in Chemistry from Stanford University under the mentorship of Professor Richard N. Zare and has been recognized for her leadership in various scientific communities. Her lab's work integrates synthetic nanomaterials with nature's own nanomaterials, such as proteins and DNA, to design hybrid structures for precision diagnostics and therapeutic development.
