Biography

Devon Knowles engages in material-centred practice through sculpture, installation, and two-dimensional processes, focusing on public art. His work emphasizes production methods and the role of objects and materials, specifically exploring how they influence form and communicate language within diverse environments. This includes the use of coloured glass, steel, aluminum, fabric, and found materials, all of which are often unpredictably combined. Knowles' approach encourages viewer engagement through shared intimacy and sympathetic attentiveness to the work. His exhibitions have been showcased nationally and internationally, including at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Gallery Berlin, Western Front, Simon Fraser University Gallery, and Off-Lomas in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His artworks are held in numerous public and private collections, including the Vancouver Art Gallery and Medcan Collection in Toronto. Knowles has received various public art commissions and currently serves as the Area Head for Sculpture and teaches courses such as Sculpture and the MFA Graduate Seminar.
