Biography

Devon Powers is the Pris Rogers Professor of Strategic Communications in the Department of Communication and Media at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on consumer culture, investigating how cultural products gain or lose popularity and meaning in society. Powers is particularly interested in trends, branding, and promotion, with a specific emphasis on popular music. He is the author of several significant works including "Trend: Business Forecasting the Future" (University of Illinois Press, 2019) and "Writing Record: Village Voice Birth Rock Criticism" (University of Massachusetts Press, 2013). Additionally, he has co-edited "Blowing Brand: Critical Perspectives on Promotional Culture" (Peter Lang, 2010). Currently, he is in the process of writing a book about the influence of trends on culture.
