Biography

Dharmi Kapadia is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Manchester. She joined the Sociology Department as a Q-Step Lecturer in March 2017, where her research primarily focuses on racism, health, and mental health among older individuals. Dharmi is an active member of the ESRC Centre on Dynamics of Ethnicity (CoDE) and has served as a Co-Investigator on various projects, including the ESRC COVID Rapid Response project, which examined ethnic and racial inequalities during crises. Her academic journey includes obtaining a PhD in Social Statistics in 2015 from the University of Manchester, which was part of an ESRC studentship. Kapadia's research investigates the role of social networks in the utilization of mental health services among women from diverse ethnic backgrounds. In addition to her research initiatives, she has contributed to understanding ethnic inequalities in the labor market and has worked on numerous relevant studies. Her previous role as a Research Assistant involved investigating social networks in chronic illness management at the Institute of Health Sciences, University of Manchester. Dharmi seeks to bring attention to access to mental health services for ethnic minority groups and works within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2015, contributing to global efforts against poverty and inequality.
