Biography

Di Niu is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta. He completed his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto from 2008 to 2012, having previously earned his M.A.Sc. from the same department between 2006 and 2008, and his B.Eng. degree in 2005 from Sun Yat-sen University in China. His research encompasses various exciting topics in cross-disciplinary areas such as data mining, applied machine learning, text mining, natural language processing, statistical learning, and networked distributed systems. Di is currently supervising PhD and Master’s students on projects involving collaborations with industrial partners like Tencent and academic institutions such as the University of Toronto. His research projects focus on text modeling, information retrieval, natural language generation, and spatial-temporal data mining. Di encourages self-motivated prospective students interested in joining his research teams.
