Di Niu is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta. He completed his PhD in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto from 2008 to 2012, after earning his M.A.Sc. degree as a student in the same department from 2006 to 2008. He received his B.Eng. degree from Sun Yat-sen University, China, in 2005. His ongoing research projects involve areas such as text modeling, understanding, matching, information retrieval, event discovery, summarization, natural language generation, concept extraction, and spatial-temporal data mining in social-economic computing.
