Professor Dr. Diana Franklin

Biography

Diana Franklin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago. Her research agenda explores ways to create curriculum and computing environments that reach a broad audience in computer science, particularly in the area of quantum computing. She is the recipient of several awards, including the NSF CAREER award and multiple teaching and paper awards. Franklin earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis in 2002 and has held faculty positions at California Polytechnic State University and UC Santa Barbara. She served as the Director of Computer Science Education at UChicago from 2015 to 2020. Her research interests encompass computing education research and promoting ethnic and gender diversity in computing fields. Franklin focuses on developing innovative strategies and curricula that help underrepresented populations and students struggling academically. She is also working on conveying quantum computing concepts in an accessible manner through her research lab, CANON, which aims to seed an inclusive approach to computing education.
