Dr. Diane Culver

Biography

Diane Culver is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa. Her research interests include coach development with a focus on para sport and gender equity, social learning theory, and participatory action research. Diane leads an active research group called SoLID (Social Learning, Innovation, Development) in sport, engaging with various sport member organizations to enhance learning capabilities within the Canadian sport system. Her notable work has been published in journals such as The Sport Psychologist, Journal of Applied Sport Psychology, and others. Additionally, she serves on the editorial board of the International Sport Coaching Journal and contributes to the Sport Coaching Review and the Canadian Journal for Women in Coaching. Diane has extensive coaching experience, having worked with the Canadian national ski team and the New Zealand Olympic ski team as a senior coaching consultant at the Coaching Association of Canada. She is committed to equity in sport psychology and is involved in SSHRC-funded action research programs focused on training social learning leaders in the Canadian sport landscape. Diane also explores the use of design thinking to support student-athlete mental health, and her ongoing research emphasizes gender equity in sport leadership and the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in sport.
