Biography

Diane Finegood is a professor at the Centre for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University, where she has been a faculty member since 1996. She holds a B.S.Ch.E. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Southern California. Finegood has gained international recognition for her scholarly work on the pathogenesis of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, employing mathematical modeling of physiological systems and focusing on public health and systems thinking. Between 2012 and 2016, she served as the President and CEO of the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. Her leadership roles include being the inaugural Scientific Director at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research's Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism, and Diabetes and the Executive Director of the Canadian Health Services and Policy Research Alliance. Her recent work emphasizes systems thinking to address complex public health problems. Finegood has published extensively, contributing to the discourse on diabetes and health policy through various academic publications and collaborations across multiple sectors.
