Biography

Diane Winston is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist, author, and columnist with a focus on the intersection of religion and media in American history and politics. She has authored and edited several significant works, including 'Red-Hot Righteous: Urban Religion and the Salvation Army' (1999), 'Faith Market: Religion and the Rise of Urban Commercial Culture' (2002), and 'Righting the American Dream: Media and the Mainstreaming of Reagan's Evangelical Vision' (2023), which investigates how the media was used during the Reagan presidency to project a new religious vision of American identity, influencing contemporary politics, including the rise of Trumpism and Christian nationalism. Winston has moderated numerous discussions on topics such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the role of gender in religious media reporting, and she has organized conferences addressing the Arab Spring and the evolution of religion in television.
