Dick Douwes is a Professor of Global History at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He has held various academic positions, including serving as the dean of the Erasmus School of History, Culture, and Communication. He studied Arabic Language and Culture at Radboud University Nijmegen and received his PhD from Nijmegen University in 1993. Douwes has lectured on the history of the Middle East at universities in Nijmegen and Leiden.
