Biography

Didier Péclard is an associate professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations and Deputy Director of the University of Geneva, where he also leads the Master's program in African Studies. He received his Doctorate from SciencesPo Paris in 2005 and has previously held positions as an assistant professor and lecturer at the University of Basel. He directed the 'Statehood Conflict' program at the Swiss Peace Foundation. Péclard has been a visiting professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, from 2012 to 2013 and served as co-editor of the journal Politique africaine from 2013 to 2018. His research focuses on the dynamics of state formation in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly studying civil wars as a matrix for state formation and the state's role in development policies. He also co-directs the Geneva Africa Lab.
