Biography

Diego Gomez-Nicola is a neuroscientist and Professor of Neuroimmunology at the University of Southampton. His research focuses on understanding the roles of glial cells in both healthy and diseased brains, particularly in the context of neurodegeneration. He is interested in how microglial cell populations change throughout a healthy lifetime and their contribution to conditions such as Alzheimer's disease. His current work involves studying human microglia using advanced cell models and techniques that allow for multidimensional profiling of human brain samples. This research aims to unravel the molecular mechanisms regulating microglial proliferation and activation to develop therapeutic strategies for neuroinflammatory diseases.
