Dieter Egli obtained his PhD degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, in 2003. He has trained as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University and joined the New York Stem Cell Foundation Research Institute as a Research Fellow in 2008. He is currently an Associate Professor of Developmental Cell Biology at Columbia University with appointments in the Department of Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center and the Columbia Stem Cell Initiative. Dr. Egli’s research focuses on genome stability during early development, differentiation, and reprogramming processes. His studies aim to understand how difficult-to-replicate sites in the genome can lead to DNA breaks and genetic changes that affect early human development. His group works extensively with early mammalian embryos and stem cell-based models to investigate metabolic disorders and utilizes genome engineering to explore the fragile sites that significantly influence cell cycle exit and terminal differentiation. This research contributes to a better understanding of the physiological implications of genetic variants during early development.
