Biography

Dietrich Erben has been the Chair of Theory History Architecture, Art Design at the Technical University of Munich since 2009. His main research interests include the history of art and architecture in the early modern period, with a particular focus on political iconography and the historical relations of international art. He studied the history of art and German language literature at the University of Augsburg and received his doctorate in philosophy in 1994. Following this, he completed his lecturer qualification at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich in the Department of Architecture in 2002. Prior to joining TUM, he was a professor of art history specializing in the early modern period at Ruhr-Universität Bochum from 2003 to 2009. His research has taken him to various European locations, including Paris and the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence, which is part of the Max Planck Institute, as well as the German Study Center in Venice.
