Dr. Dijana Alic

Biography

Dijana Alic is an Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in the Faculty of Arts, Design, and Architecture, specifically within the School of Built Environment. With over twenty years of academic experience, she has held several key leadership positions, including Program Coordinator for the Master of Architecture from 2012 to 2017 and Associate Dean of Education from 2017 to 2020. Her research interests focus on the intersection of built environment with social, political, and cultural contexts, with a notable current project surveying over 60 buildings that cater to Sydney's diverse immigrant groups. This work examines multiculturalism and urban development, highlighting the impact of migrants on city fabric. She has co-authored significant publications on social and affordable housing, and her ongoing research on war architecture has resulted in over 20 publications, including contributions to the book 'Architecture Borderline: Boundary Politics Built Space'. A longtime member of the Society of Architectural Historians, Australia and New Zealand, she is actively involved in peer reviewing for academic journals and conferences. Demonstrating a strong commitment to evidence-based teaching, she was awarded a Senior Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy and recognized as a Fellow of the UNSW Scientia Education Academy in 2018, acknowledging her contributions to architectural education.
