Dr. Ece (Gamsiz) Uzun is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Brown University and the founding Director of Clinical Bioinformatics at the Lifespan Academic Medical Center. She also serves as the Associate Director of the Center for Clinical Cancer Informatics Data Science (CCIDS). Dr. Uzun holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, an M.S. in Biological Sciences Bioengineering from Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkey, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, MA. Her doctoral research focused on mathematical modeling of drug delivery systems, specifically oral drug delivery. Following her PhD, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Dr. Eric Morrow's lab at Brown University, where she worked on computational genetics related to autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Uzun's research includes translational bioinformatics and the development of machine learning-based predictive models for cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders. She is the Editor-in-Chief of JMIR Bioinformatics and Biotechnology and has received multiple awards for her contributions to the field, including the Distinguished Service Award from the International Association of Intelligent Biology Medicine in 2024 and the Karen T. Romer Prize for Undergraduate Advising and Mentoring at Brown University in 2022.
