Biography

Dima Damen is a Professor of Computer Vision at the University of Bristol and an EPSRC Fellow from 2020 to 2025. His research focuses on the automatic understanding of object interactions, actions, and activities using wearable visual and depth sensors. He has contributed to novel research questions regarding action completion, skill and expertise determination from video sequences, discovering task-relevant objects, and dual-domain dual-time learning utilizing multi-modal fusion techniques that incorporate vision, audio, and language. Dima is the lead of the EPIC-KITCHENS project, which includes the largest dataset in egocentric vision and associated open challenges, and he organizes the annual EPIC workshop series at major conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, and ECCV. He served as the program chair for ICCV 2021 and is an associate editor for the International Journal of Computer Vision and IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. Dima joined the University of Bristol in 2010 as a postdoctoral researcher and has since held positions as an assistant professor, an associate professor, and was appointed chair in August 2021. He supervises nine PhD students and five postdoctoral researchers.
