Biography

Dimitar Anguelov is a Lecturer in the Department of Human Geography at Monash University. Prior to joining Monash, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow and Lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of British Columbia. He holds a PhD in Geography from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington in Seattle. Dimitar's research focuses on geopolitical economies and the development of global capitalism, with a particular emphasis on finance governance and regional expertise in East and Southeast Asia. His work interrogates the role of neoliberal reform efforts and examines the contested nature of market-state relations, alongside the changing roles of states and markets in development. He investigates the impacts of financialization and marketization processes, especially regarding socio-economic and ecological governance at urban, regional, and global scales. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dimitar's research aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and he actively engages in collaborative projects that address global issues.
