Professor Sasselov studies the interaction of light and matter (radiative transfer), stars, exoplanets, biomolecules and the origins of life, as well as astrobiology in general. He runs a photochemistry lab that explores the origins of life's building blocks through photochemical and photodynamic experiments. He is the director of Harvard’s Origins of Life Initiative, an interdisciplinary institute that brings together biologists, chemists, and astronomers in search of the starting points of life on Earth and possibly elsewhere.
