Biography

Dimitra Fimi joined the University of Glasgow in 2018 after her tenure at Cardiff Metropolitan University. She is a recognized expert in the fields of Fantasy Literature and Children's Literature, with a particular focus on J.R.R. Tolkien and medievalism. Her monograph, 'Tolkien, Race and Cultural History: Fairies and Hobbits' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008), received the Mythopoeic Scholarship Award in Inklings Studies. Fimi also co-edited an extended edition of Tolkien's essay 'A Secret Vice,' which explores the theme of invented languages, earning the Tolkien Society Award for 'Best Book.' Her latest monograph, 'Celtic Myth in Contemporary Children’s Fantasy: Idealization, Identity, Ideology' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), also won the Mythopoeic Scholarship Award in Myth and Fantasy Studies. In addition to her publications, she contributes to radio and television programs including BBC Radio 4 and the History Channel. Fimi co-edits the Perspectives on Fantasy book series for Bloomsbury and has an extensive background in academic research and supervision. She is an active member of various research groups and is involved in interdisciplinary projects that aim to bridge literature with other fields.
