Dimitrios Psaltis is a Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology in the School of Physics. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and also holds a B.Sc. (equivalent) from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His research primarily focuses on understanding the properties of black holes and testing the theory of general relativity at astrophysical and cosmological scales. He has pioneered the use of hybrid computer architectures to conduct extensive computer simulations of magnetohydrodynamical turbulence, plasma-photon interactions, and warped spacetimes around black holes. Psaltis is a founding member of the Event Horizon Telescope, an international mm-VLBI experiment that achieved the milestone of capturing the first image of a black hole at horizon-scale resolution. He served as the initial Project Scientist for this collaboration from 2016 to 2019.
