Biography

Dinesh Pai is a Professor at the University of British Columbia with a background in Computer Science. He holds a B. Tech. from IIT Madras, an M.S. from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. His academic career includes roles as a Research Associate and faculty positions at several institutions, including the University of British Columbia, where he has served as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor since 1991. His research interests lie in Sensorimotor Computation, which combines principles from movement sensing in biological as well as engineered systems. He is noted for his work in scientific computing, visual computing, and augmented reality. His contributions include the development of new imaging methods, and various innovative robotic systems which have applications in neurobiology, robotics, and computer graphics. He has received significant funding for his research from institutions such as the Human Frontier Science Program and NSERC, and his work has led to the pioneering of algorithms for multisensory simulation in graphics and haptics. He has been recognized with awards including the NSERC Discovery Accelerator Award in 2007.
