Biography

Professor Busch conducts research in infection immunology, focusing on identifying therapeutically useful defense mechanisms. His work centers on the development of antigen-specific T cells and the new technologies that make immune cells applicable for diagnostic and cell therapy applications. After studying medicine in Mainz and Freiburg, he completed his doctorate in 1993 and began clinical infectiological training in pediatrics at Würzburg. He later went to Yale University on a DFG scholarship. In 2003, he became a qualified lecturer and completed residency in medical microbiology and epidemiology of infection in 2005 at TUM, where he currently leads the focus group on Clinical Cell Processing and Purification. Additionally, he has co-initiated successful start-ups in cell therapeutics. He has held notable positions such as Chairman of the Board at the German Center for Infection Research and Director of the Institute of Medical Microbiology, Immunology, and Hygiene at TUM since 2009.
