Biography

Professor Dirk Engelberg holds a position in the Department of Materials at the University of Manchester, specializing in Materials Performance and Corrosion. His research interests span a range of topics including Net Zero Engineering, hydrogen embrittlement, and localized corrosion phenomena in various materials including carbon steels, stainless steels, and aluminum alloys. He has contributed significantly to the fields of metallurgical engineering and corrosion science, leading innovative research programs focusing on nuclear waste containment and decommissioning technology. Engelberg has completed his education in Metallurgy and Materials Science, obtaining a PhD from UMIST with a focus on grain boundary engineering and stress corrosion resistance in stainless steel.
