Biography

Dirk Grundler is a prominent researcher in the field of magnetonics and spintronics, with a strong focus on superconducting quantum systems, nanotechnology, and integrated magnetic devices. He obtained his diploma in physics from Universität Hamburg, Germany in 1991, and later earned his doctorate in 1995 while working at Philips Research Laboratories. Between 1995 and 2005, he contributed significantly to the study of semiconductors and spintronics at the Institute of Physics at UHH, culminating in his habilitation in experimental physics. He served as a full professor at TU Munich from 2005 to 2015 before taking up a position as an associate professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). His research focuses on individual ferromagnetic nanostructures and their applications in information technology, wherein he explores their interactions and behaviors in various magnetic fields and geometries. His work also encompasses theoretical simulations that aim to elucidate collective spin excitations and the microwave properties of nanoscale magnetic materials.
