Dr. Dirk Johnson

Biography

Dirk C. Johnson, MD, is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine with specialization in general surgery, trauma, and surgical critical care. He is board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. Dr. Johnson has extensive training, having completed his MD at Yale School of Medicine in 2000, followed by a residency in general surgery at both Vanderbilt University Medical Center and University of Texas Medical Branch. He also completed a fellowship in surgical critical care. His research interests include acute care surgery, gastrointestinal tract, mechanical ventilation, and health care delivery systems. Johnson has published multiple articles and book chapters focusing on bowel obstructions and trauma-related surgeries. He serves as the Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Services at Yale New Haven Hospital's St. Raphael's Campus, where he oversees patient care and surgical operations. Dr. Johnson is actively involved in volunteer medical missions, including providing care to earthquake survivors in Haiti. He collaborates frequently with other researchers in his field to advance understanding and improve treatment in surgical practices.
