Dr. Ditlev Tamm

Biography

Ditlev Tamm is a Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Law at the University of Copenhagen, where he has been instrumental in the fields of legal history and comparative law. He graduated in law from the University of Copenhagen in 1970 and started his career with the Danish Ministry of Justice in 1973. In 1978, he was appointed as a chair in legal history and became an ordinary professor. His doctoral thesis, submitted in 1977, focused on the history of Danish private law in the 19th century, analyzed in the context of international influences, particularly from the German criminalist school. He later pursued further studies culminating in a dr. phil. degree at the University of Odense, with a thesis dedicated to the legal and moral purges during World War II in Denmark. Throughout his career, Tamm has published extensively on Danish political history, cultural studies, and legal history and has been a guest lecturer in various European and Latin American universities. He actively participates in discussions on church-state relations in Denmark and is currently working on a collaborative book about the church. Tamm is a member of several prestigious academic societies, including the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences, and has received honorary doctorates for his contributions to the field.
