Biography

Dmitry Garagash is a Professor and Co-op Advisor for the Mineral Resource Program at Dalhousie University. His research interests lie in the application of principles of theoretical and experimental mechanics to various problems in resource engineering and civil engineering. He investigates fluid-driven fractures in subsurface environments, with particular emphasis on hydrocarbon recovery and carbon sequestration. His work also touches on the dynamics of earthquakes, including source processes, slip nucleation, and propagation in fluid-infiltrated fault gouge zones. Additionally, Garagash explores issues of strain localization and instability phenomena in fluid-infiltrated geomaterials.
