Biography

Doerte Bischoff is a professor of Modern German Literature and the head of the Walter Berendsohn Research Center for German Exile Literature at the University of Hamburg. Her research interests focus on modern German literature, literary studies, and cultural theory, with particular emphases on exile literature, transnationality, and the socio-political implications of literature. Bischoff has published extensively on topics such as German-Jewish literature, Holocaust memory, and the intersection of literature and gender studies. In addition to her academic responsibilities, she has been involved in organizing numerous conferences and workshops aimed at promoting scholarly exchange on themes of exile and migration. Her notable works include monographs and edited volumes on exile literature, gender, and transnational contexts.
