Dominic Cheung is a Professor Emeritus in East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Southern California. He specializes in Chinese cultural studies, focusing on modern classical literature and the interactions of East and West in literary contexts. Cheung has made significant contributions to understanding visual culture and comparative poetics within the framework of contemporary Chinese literature. He has published extensively, including several pivotal books and numerous articles on various aspects of Chinese poetry and literature. As a professional poet using the pseudonym Chang Ts’o (Zhang Cuo), he has also published 18 collections of modern poetry in Chinese. Cheung's work often explores themes of cultural hybridity and the development of Chinese literature through a comparative lens, including critical engagements with material culture and visual arts in historical contexts.
