Biography

Dominic Missimi is a Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University, where he has had a profound impact on the field of music theatre. He is the founder and director of Northwestern’s Music Theatre Program and has a rich history as the executive director of the American Music Theatre Project. During his thirty-two years at Northwestern, he directed nearly one hundred plays, musicals, and operas, earning Joseph Jefferson nominations for his productions. His extensive experience also includes directing at Chicago Opera Theatre and Michigan Opera, as well as at various regional theatres and music theatre houses in Chicago. Missimi was honored with the Donald Robertson Endowed Chair in Music Theatre and is noted for organizing an all-star alumni variety show titled Starry, Starry Night in 2010 upon his retirement. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Detroit and a Master of Arts from Wayne State University. He also received a Kellogg Fellowship that allowed him to pursue advanced studies in London, culminating in a Licentiate from the Royal Academy of Music and Drama.
