Biography

Dominic joined the University of Southampton as a Teaching Fellow in Film Studies in 2022. He previously taught at the University of Kent (Canterbury) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Santiago). His research explores storytelling style in post-war European cinema through a historical poetics framework, with interests in cognitive media studies and the sociology of cinephilia. Dominic currently convenes several modules, including Introduction to Film 1 and 2, Introduction to Film Studies, and Auteur Filmmakers: Case Studies in Cinema, while having previously taught a wide range of topics from Film Theory to the History of British Cinema. Dominic holds a PhD in Film from the University of Kent, where he focused on the political modernist cinema of Jean-Luc Godard and the Dziga Vertov Group. He also earned an MA in History of Film and Visual Media from Birkbeck, University of London, and a BA (Hons) in English Studies from Manchester Metropolitan University.
