Biography

Dominik Grimm conducts research in the field of Bioinformatics, focusing on the development of statistical machine learning methods to understand complex biological systems and their biochemical properties. He works on methods to detect genotype-phenotype relationships by capturing phenotypic features from images. A significant aspect of his research involves artificial intelligence techniques aimed at solving problems within the biological sciences and chemistry, often leveraging specific prior knowledge. Grimm studied Bioinformatics at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences in 2011 and has had academic stays abroad including the University of Cambridge, the European Bioinformatics Institute, and the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. He received his PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in conjunction with the University of Tübingen in 2015, followed by a postdoctoral position at D-BSSE ETH Zurich in 2016. He briefly worked in the industry before being appointed as a professor in Bioinformatics in 2018 at the Technical University of Munich.
