Dr. Dominik Mischkowski

Biography

Dominik Mischkowski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His research primarily focuses on the interplay between physical and emotional pain, exploring how the physical pain system regulates social and psychological functions. He employs a multi-methods approach in his investigations, which includes pharmacological interventions using acetaminophen, physiological measures like skin conductance and heart rate, as well as advanced imaging techniques such as functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). His work addresses key questions about how physical pain influences social behavior and the coping mechanisms individuals adopt when faced with pain. Dr. Mischkowski is also actively involved in mentoring graduate students, welcoming new members to his Social Neuroscience Pain (SNaP) lab. He has contributed to various publications in notable journals, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field of pain research through empirical study and collaborative endeavors with both students and colleagues.
