Dr. Dominique Tobler

Biography

Dominique J. Tobler is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen. His research interests lie primarily in the field of environmental materials chemistry, focusing on synthetic natural materials such as iron oxides, silica, and carbonates, as well as soil formation and biogeochemical processes like (bio-)mineralization pathways and transport processes for pollutant remediation. He has a strong emphasis on the redox and sorption properties of iron minerals, particularly in reduced, waterlogged soil conditions. Tobler's work on biochar as a soil amendment aims to enhance soil quality and facilitate carbon sequestration and pollutant removal. He investigates the catalytic activity of biochar and how it is affected by the properties of the biochar itself, including its production process. His innovative experimental designs utilize high-end analytical techniques, such as synchrotron-based methods, to monitor the formation, transformation, transport, and interaction of nanomaterials within soil solutions. Over the last five years, he has collaborated with various research institutions, strengthening his contributions to the field.
