Biography

Donato Santeramo earned his undergraduate degree in Italian Studies from the University of Rome, “La Sapienza”, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto. He is a Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Queen’s University, where he also holds a cross appointment in the School of Drama and Music. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he is associated with the Cultural Studies Graduate Program. His research interests include 20th-century Italian theatre literature, literary studies, and semiotics. Professor Santeramo has published extensively on Italian literature, theatre, and film semiotics. Some of his recent publications include collaborative works on cultural narratives and Italian filmmakers. He has also contributed to academic journals and participated in various creative artistic endeavors, including art exhibits and screenwriting. He is recognized for his teaching contributions, having received the Queen’s Alumnae Teaching Award in 2004. Over his career, he has taught at institutions such as Middlebury College's Summer School and the University of Calabria, sharing his expertise in semiotics and Italian culture with students.
