Dr. Donatus Oguamanam

Biography

Donatus Oguamanam is an Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. He obtained his PhD from the University of Waterloo in 1994, and holds a Master of Applied Science from the University of Regina (1990), a Master's degree from the University of Lagos (1988), and a Bachelor of Science degree (1986). His research interests include Structural Mechanics, Dynamics Vibration, Computational Methods, Intelligent Structures, and Energy Harvesting. Oguamanam's work involves the investigation of how structures interact with their environments, seeking novel solutions such as converting mechanical energy from movement into electrical energy for various applications, including medical devices and sustainable energy systems. He has taught various courses including Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Solid Mechanics, and Machine Design. Oguamanam is actively engaged in fostering student curiosity and problem-solving skills, aligning his teaching approach with engineering principles that emphasize active and innovative thinking. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME), and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
