Dongmei Chen is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Planning at Queen's University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Peking University, China, and her Master's degree in GIS and Remote Sensing Applications from the Institute of Remote Sensing Application, Chinese Academy of Sciences. She obtained her Ph.D. in Geography through a joint doctoral program between San Diego State University and the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2001. Prior to joining Queen's University in 2002, she worked as an ESRI GIS Product Specialist. Her research focuses on understanding and modeling the interactions between human activities and the physical environment, utilizing GIS and remote sensing techniques along with spatial modeling approaches at local and regional scales. Current research interests include land use/cover change detection and modeling through time series analysis of remotely sensed images, machine learning and AI-based methods for GIS and remote sensing applications, spatial-temporal disease risk analysis, and the analysis of environmental and ecological health impacts stemming from urbanization and climate change, as well as air pollution monitoring.
