Dr. Dongwon Oh

Biography

DongWon Oh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the National University of Singapore. He obtained his Ph.D. and M.A. degrees from Princeton University and has a B.A. from Seoul National University. His research focuses on social perception and how various factors such as culture, emotion, and personality influence the way perceptions are formed and shaped by stereotypes and conceptual knowledge. He employs a combination of behavioral experiments, data-driven modeling, multilevel modeling, and neuroimaging to explore these topics. Oh aims to enhance the understanding of relationships among mental faculties such as perception, learning, semantic memory, and decision making, with a view to addressing the unfair biases and societal consequences that arise from misperceptions. Some of his notable publications include works on gender biases in competence impressions from faces and the impact of economic status cues on perceived competence.
