Biography

Receiving an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Cornell University and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, Donna M. Huryn began her career as a medicinal chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, contributing to drug discovery efforts in areas such as HIV, cancer, asthma, and CNS disorders. In 2004, she transitioned to academia, serving as a Professor at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Pharmacy before being appointed as Professor of Practice in the Chemistry Department at the University of Pennsylvania in August 2023. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Chemical Society, having received the ACS Philadelphia Local Section Award and the Philip S. Portoghese Lectureship. Huryn co-authored the textbook "Medicinal Chemistry" and has served as an Associate Editor for ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters. In 2019, she co-founded Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry, continuing to actively organize events.
