Donna K. Silverstein is a professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). With a doctorate in psychology and a minor in statistics from New York University, she has over 30 years of experience in epidemiologic research. Dr. Silverstein has been a co-investigator in the Rancho Bernardo Study since 1986 and has served as a principal co-investigator for various NIH and industry sponsored studies. Her extensive publication record covers a wide range of topics including chronic diseases, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, bone density, cognitive function, and aspects of women's health, particularly the long-term effects of hysterectomy and pregnancy. In addition to her research, Dr. Silverstein teaches courses on research design, data analysis, and scientific writing, mentoring both undergraduate and doctoral students in the UCSD-SDSU Joint Doctoral Program in Public Health Epidemiology. Her research interests also extend to the stress factors affecting dental students and oral health. Dr. Silverstein has been recognized for her contributions to the field and was awarded Advisor of the Year in 2013 by the UCSD Pre-Dental Society.
