Dr. Doo Park

Biography

Doo Jae Park is a Lecturer III in Sport Management at the University of Michigan and has previously served as a visiting assistant professor in Asian American Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned his Ph.D. in Kinesiology with minors in Asian American Studies and Global Studies from the University of Illinois. His research focuses on Asian racialization, identity politics, cultural citizenship, and the intersections of contemporary sport and physical culture. Dr. Park's work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals including the Sport Sociology Journal and Communication & Sport. He is an active member of several professional organizations including the North American Society for Sport Management and the International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry. Dr. Park is currently developing a book manuscript that explores how sport public pedagogy influences multicultural identities, examining concepts such as post-raciality, colorblindness, and racial formation within the Asian diaspora, particularly through the lens of youth ice hockey. His areas of interest encompass physical cultural studies, qualitative inquiry, and the impacts of race and immigration in a global context.
