Biography

Dorian Liepmann is a Professor in the Department of Bioengineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He has conducted extensive research in the fields of bioinstrumentation, biomaterials and nanotechnology, bioMEMS, microfluid dynamics, and experimental biofluid dynamics. His work particularly focuses on hemodynamics associated with valvular heart disease and cardiac arterial flows. Prof. Liepmann earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, in Applied Mechanics, and has been part of the academic community at UC Berkeley since the late 1980s. His experience includes serving as Chair of the Department of Bioengineering and Director of the Berkeley Sensor Actuator Center. He has contributed significantly to various academic and research groups and has held several faculty positions throughout his career. Additionally, he has received numerous honors for his contributions to the field, including being named a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
