Dr. Dorji Wangchuk

Biography

Dorji Wangchuk is a Professor at the University of Hamburg, where he specializes in Classical Tibetan Studies and Tibetan Buddhist Studies. He completed his Ph.D. in Classical Indology with a focus on Buddhist Studies, receiving summa cum laude for his thesis, which studied the concept of Bodhicitta in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism. He holds multiple monastic degrees and has been involved in various academic capacities, including visiting professorships at prestigious universities such as the University of Tsukuba and McGill University. His research interests encompass Tibetan intellectual history, Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, and the textual culture of Tibet. Wangchuk has contributed extensively to the field through his numerous publications, including monographs and articles on Tibetan Buddhism, as well as serving in key academic roles, such as a founding member of the Khyentse Center for Tibetan Buddhist Textual Scholarship. His work often explores the interplay of tradition and modernity in Tibetan studies, emphasizing both historical perspectives and contemporary issues.
