Biography

Dorothee Bienzle is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Guelph specializing in veterinary clinical pathology. She obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and later earned a Master of Science degree while also completing a residency in Veterinary Clinical Pathology at the University of Guelph. After achieving board certification from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, she completed her PhD in Immunology at McMaster University under a Medical Research Council Canada fellowship. Bienzle has extensive experience in academia, having spent years on the faculty at the University of Georgia before joining the University of Guelph, where she held a Canada Research Chair II in Veterinary Pathology from 2005 to 2015. Her research focuses on feline immunity, equine asthma, and the diagnostic pathways for hematologic malignancies such as leukemia and lymphoma. She actively supervises graduate students, contributing significantly to their academic and professional development in veterinary medicine. Bienzle has also made substantial contributions to veterinary pathology literature with over 120 peer-reviewed publications. Alongside her teaching and research roles, she serves in professional organizations as the past president of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
