Biography

Dorothy J. Wholihan is a Clinical Professor and Program Director of the Advanced Practice Palliative Care Specialty Sequence at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. With over 40 years of nursing experience, she has dedicated her career to the care of individuals with advanced illness and their families. Wholihan has held positions as an oncology pain management clinical nurse specialist and maintains an active clinical practice as a nurse practitioner in palliative care with the Veterans Health Administration. She has been recognized as a national leader in palliative care nursing education and has served for more than 15 years on the national faculty of the End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC). In 2019, she was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing and currently serves on their End-of-Life Expert Panel. Her research interests include the spiritual aspects of care, education in communication techniques, and palliative care practices for veterans at the end of life.
